Josh Williams was performing the Bluegrass song “Mordecai” when a little bird decided to land on his guitar! It’s not clear if the bird actually sang along, it might be he just wanted to get closer so he could hear better, or maybe he had a backstage pass and got ahead of himself! At any rate, Williams kept his cool and continued the song to the end, except he couldn’t play his guitar! Check the excitement around 1:45 in the video!

Example #4,215 of “things you should be careful doing or saying around babies.”
I have this funny feeling Mommy and Daddy haven’t heard the last of this from their little mimics, especially with Mommy laughing at them…

Pictures from the third and last day of AnimeUSA 2011. Kind of a shame, there has been an anime convention in Crystal City since at least 1997, and this will be the last one for the foreseeable future. I went to my first one, Katsucon 4 I think it was, in 1998, and had only missed a couple there after that. Ah, well, the price of growth, they just got too big to be handled in the Hyatt. I don’t think they’ll have as much problem next year, since it looked like this year’s attendance was down. Not as much disposable income lately…

Three years old, and she’s already got the right idea, if monsters come into your room, what would you do? This is very important, because monsters can sneak in when you aren’t looking! Don’t really know what part of them is their “ask”, though…
I love her Mom’s reaction, she doesn’t want to laugh, but how can you not?

“Yeah, see, Muggsy, no jail’s been made that can keep Babyface Malone locked up, see?” “So, what’s the plan, Babyface?” “What I do see, is climb over the bars, jump down, then go grab the camera so they don’t know I’m gone, see?” “I dunno, Babyface, sounds kinda tricky.” “It’s okay, see, I’ll hide my face for a while so they don’t see me!” “Duh, sure Babyface, that’ll work!”

There is a company in Japan that has written a fantastic piece of software that allows even non-musicians to write music and songs for a “virtual singer” to perform. The software creates “vocaloids”, or virtual singers, each with a distinctive (to some ears) voice and vocal mannerisms. The most famous one of these has been named “Hatsune Miku” by the software creators. When someone writes a song, they draw out the syllables of the song at different notes on a graph, and the vocaloid software simulates a singer hitting that note while speaking that syllable.
Because it’s based on syllables, a vocaloid can sing in any language, although not as easily in English as in Japanese, because the set of programmed syllables is based on Japanese. The software designers allow the software to be implemented on various computers, and the software can be incorporated into animation software, ...
